Shannon Canavin, soprano

Shannon Canavin, soprano, holds a Bachelor’s degree
from New England Conservatory in voice and theory where she
studied with D’Anna Fortunato and a Master’s
degree from Case Western Reserve University in early music
performances practices where she studied with Ellen Hargis.
She currently studies with Pamela Dellal and has taken masterclasses
with Julianne Baird, Andrew Lawrence-King, and Sequentia.
Ms. Canavin has attended the Oberlin Baroque Performance
Institute, Vancouver Early Music Programme, Amherst Early
Music Festival, and Lute Society of America workshops. She
has performed with Apollo’s Fire, Cappella Alamire,
the Choir of the Church of the Advent, the Old North Festival
Chorus, the Small Consort, and Cappella Clausura and can
be heard on recordings by Apollo’s Fire, the Church
of the Advent, and the Treble Chorus of New England. Ms.
Canavin’s solo appearances include the Second Woman
in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas with Christopher
Hogwood, Luigi Rossi’s Il ballo delle ingrate with
Paul O’Dette, and La Poésie in Charpentier’s Les
arts florissants with Kenneth Slowik; 2005-2006 engagements
include Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by
Monteverdi with Scherzi Musicali, the Bach Magnificat at
the United Church of Christ (Lexington, MA), and Bach cantatas
with the Newport Baroque Orchestra. In addition to her performing
career, Ms. Canavin has worked on the staffs of Early Music
America and the Boston Early Music Festival, where she is
currently General Manager.
